Winter Steelhead Trips with Anglers Edge Adventures

Winter Steelhead Trips

For all Kooskia trips, Ryan Stefek exclusively guides for Anglers Edge Adventures, owned and operated by Cody and Tanya Sewell.

All Kooskia trips must be booked directly through anglersedgeadventures.com.

Anglers Edge Adventures is one of only two outfitters offering guided fly fishing trips on the Clearwater River, delivering a truly unique winter steelhead experience.

What To Expect

Our Kooskia trips connect anglers to the finest winter steelhead fishing in the Pacific Northwest. You’ll fish the scenic Clearwater River system, with opportunities to target strong, wild steelhead using effective fly fishing methods.

  • We use long rods and specialized setups designed for winter steelhead, but no prior experience is necessary. We’ll teach you everything you need to know right on the water.
  • We also fish nymph rigs to reach steelhead holding deep.
  • Expect changing conditions each day—snow, rain, wind, or sunshine are all possible in Idaho winters.
  • We accommodate up to three boats per day, creating a small-group atmosphere ideal for fishing with friends or family.
  • All fly fishing gear includes rods, reels, flies, and tackle.
  • Your trip also includes shuttle service, lunch, and bottled water so you can focus entirely on the fishing.

Ryan personally guides all fly anglers for Anglers Edge, so you’ll get expert local knowledge every step of the way.

What To Bring

This is an actual winter steelhead trip, and conditions in January–February can be cold, wet, and raw, which is part of the thrill. Being appropriately dressed can make the difference between a long, cold slog and an incredible day on the water.

Recommended Gear:

  • Heavy-duty breathable waders and insulated boots

  • Wool or synthetic base layers (absolutely no cotton)

  • Fleece or down midlayer, and a waterproof/windproof outer shell

  • Wool socks, gloves (fingerless or convertible), and a warm hat

  • Neck gaiter or buff for wind protection

  • Polarized sunglasses (even on overcast days)

We fish out of drift boats, but expect to be in the elements for hours. We always recommend packing extra layers in a dry bag and a thermos for hot coffee or tea. Guides bring the grit and the gear, but staying dry and warm is key to enjoying every cast.

RSO provides all fishing gear if needed
