Located in south-central Montana near the edge of the Crow Indian Reservation, Fort Smith is home to one of the best-known tailwater fisheries in the country—the Big Horn River. This world-renowned stretch is famous for its clear, cold water, abundant insect hatches, and healthy populations of wild brown and rainbow trout.

Fishing here is consistent in all four seasons. Spring and fall bring strong baetis and midge hatches, while summer is dry fly heaven. Winter offers solitude and surprisingly active fish thanks to stable flows from the Yellowtail Dam.
