Based in Fort Smith, Montana, our operations include guided fly fishing on the Big Horn River, the upper Big Horn in Thermopolis, Wyoming, winter steelhead trips in Kooskia, Idaho (book with Anglers Edge Adventures), and guided hunting on private ground in south-central Montana for deer, elk, birds, and varmints.

Meet Ryan Stefek

I grew up along the banks of the Yellowstone River with a fly rod in hand and a deep respect for the outdoors. What started as a personal passion quickly became my profession when I began guiding in 2003—and I’ve never looked back.

Over the years, that time outside expanded beyond the river. Along with thousands of days on the water, I’ve spent seasons guiding hunters on private ground in south-central Montana, working with deer, elk, birds, and varmints. Whether we’re floating the Big Horn, glassing a ridgeline, or sitting a well-placed stand, the focus is always the same: hunt and fish the right way, with respect for the land and the experience.

I believe good guiding is about more than fish counts or filled tags. It’s about reading the water, reading the ground, and reading the people you’re guiding. Every trip should feel intentional, well-run, and tailored to the person standing next to you.

Honestly, it was one of the best fly fishing experiences I’ve ever had. Ryan knows these waters inside and out. We were into monster trout almost immediately and by the end of the day, we had caught so many brown trout and rainbow trout we actually lost count.
